2015 Fantasy Football Draft Guide

Tomorrow is August, which means one thing… START OF FANTASY FOOTBALL SEASON!! Every frat star, former intramural phenom, or just middle aged dad are chomping at the bit to get their hands on the the Shiva Bowl. But heres the thing… Fantasy is always so fickle, that there usually is never a dynasty in any league. People are jumping at every draft guide, mock draft, and sleeper ranking they can find just to get the advantage. But those are all bull. This one is the one you want. You will not lose if you follow my guide.

Joining/Creating a League

Make sure you join a league that you belong in. Don’t just join some random league on Yahoo or ESPN. Its not any fun. Try and be in a league with your closest friends. Its way more competitive and fun. Make sure you don’t have to few members or too many. Last year I was in a league of 16 teams. Drew Stanton was my backup and that was actually an advantage over others. You want to be in the sweet spot. 8-12 is about the place you want to be, 10 being the preferred amount.  If its a league of coworkers or friends from college, make sure everyone knows each other. The trash talking is way more fun and intense. People will have ideas of what you are talking about. Also make the league private and keep the random person from Alaska from your league.

Draft Location

How sick would it be to have everyone you are in a league with all in one location. I saw a commercial where the guys used a conference room to do the drafting. But these things can be a myth. Most of the times, you will have people out of state in your league and its just hard to get everyone together at the same location and time. But the message boards come in handy. Nothing is better than insulting your former roommate because he drafted the buccaneers defense in the fourth round… lol what an idiot!

Team Name

Make sure its funny. Nothing stupid, trying to act cool like choosing your team name to be the “Incino Men”. Make it something personal against someone in your league, maybe referencing someone’s mother or their lack of fantasy skill.

First Round Pick

I keep saying this year is going to be a kicker’s year. So stock up on about 3-4 of them. They are a dime a dozen. Get a few defenses as well. Be smart here. Your first pick can make or break your season. Don’t get someone who has high injury risk. Get someone who is younger. No need to get a QB here. No one else should, so why stress about it. Go after a good RB and WR. A Calvin Johnson or Jamaal Charles will be good here. There is too much risk in Marshawn Lynch. He might get suspended. Might have a down year. Might not get alot of carries with Wilson evolving and Jimmy Graham coming in from New Orleans. Matt Forte is another risk. How will he benefit from a new coach being in Chicago. Will he get more carries? Will he get hurt? For a WR, pick Calvin Johnson. Just do it. Too much upside there. On the other hand go for Antonio Brown, Julio Jones, Jordy Nelson, or Demaryius Thomas. Don’t pick Dez Bryant. He just seems like the kind of guy to get a max contract and then take a year off. Don’t waste your time on him. Save QBs for the second round.

Third Round

With the second round being specifically for QBs, make this round for another wideout or RB. Someone like Randall Cobb, AJ Reed, Matt Forte, or even Eddie Lacy. You might be able to steal a really good running back in this round. Someone who has first round potential based on how big your league is. Stay away from rookies who you think will have big seasons. Just don’t do it. I fell for the Sammy Watkins myth hard and I paid for it. Make sure, whoever you pick, has a good QB throwing to them.tannehill-throw2

Best TE’s-  A good TE comes along once in a lifetime. They are so up and down every season, you never know what you are going to get. I will say the top 3 on this list are good picks. You might need to draft Gronk early to get them. Bennett and Olsen you can pick up in the 4th and 5th rounds, but they are consistently good. Don’t draft Jimmy Graham. Don’t do it. He will not be the same player. Seattle is a run first team, and if they decide to throw it alot this year, they will not be very good. Just don’t do it.

  1. Rob Gronkowski
  2. Greg Olsen
  3. Martellus Bennett
  4. Travis Kelce
  5. Jimmy Graham

Defenses: Want a sleeper defense? Pick Buffalo. Just do it. They already had a great defense last year. Now add some signings, draft picks, and Rex Ryan to the mix, you have a winner. Might sound weird having Green Bay in the top 10, but they were one of the best teams last year at forcing turnovers. They have revamped their defense in the draft and brought everyone back. Look for them to shoot up this list.

  1. Seattle
  2. Buffalo
  3. Houston
  4. St. Louis
  5. Green Bay
  6. Arizona
  7. Denver
  8. Baltimore
  9. New England
  10. Detroit

Kickers- Kickers will make or break your team. Thats why I like to have about four of them on my squad. They are cheap, easy to pick up, and bring in alot of points.
